| Interview with Gary Guest "Pure Sportsmanship !" |
What got you started in R/C racing? I went to my local track in 1985 (The Ranch Pit Shop Del Mar) and tried to race my Tamiya Hornet. I got smoked, along with breaking the car every run. On the way home that night my Dad stopped at Hobby Shack and told me to stay in the car, needless to say he walked out of the store with a new Associated RC-10 race car and I have been racing ever since. What are your career goals? To really enjoy my work, be profitable, and leave a good inheritance for my children and their children too. Favorite food? That’s easy: Greasy Mexican Food What is the best memory in your r/c racing career? I have a lot of great memories; I don’t think I could pick just one. I have always enjoyed traveling and racing with my friends but some of best memories are when I was just hanging out at my local track club racing. Favorite movie of all time? It’s a tie between HEAT and The Count of Monte Cristo. What intrigues you most about R/C Gas Car Racing? It is Fierce!! The competition is tough and the level of concentration it takes to be fast is awesome. There are several variables in clutch, engine, pipes etc…so you had better be prepared and ready or you really are not going to be competitive. Favorite type of music? House Who do you admire most in the r/c industry and why? I have to admire Kris Moore and Jay Halsey. They have been racing Off-Road since the very beginning and have the best attitudes of all the current racers. You can also count on them to make an A-main any where in the world. The best representative for any company would probably be Adam Drake. Favorite Full Size Car? Subaru WRX Rally Car What are your R/C Racing goals? To continue to be fast and to be a good representative for my sponsors and to help fellow racers with whatever they might need. What are your goals outside of the r/c industry? To be a great Father, Husband, Friend, and Brother so that when it is all said and done I have no doubts in what I have done. Who is your idol? Jesus Christ If you had all the money in the world, what would your hobby be? That’s easy - F1 and unlimited Off-Road truck race car driver. If you could change one thing in r/c racing, what would it be and why? I would mandate that all factory drivers absolutely have to take the time to help other racers. I can’t tell you how many times I see beginning or non-experienced racers go to a factory driver for help and come away with some BS answer because the factory driver is too arrogant or cool to really help them with the right answers. There is no room in R/C Racing for this because we will not grow but go backwards as a whole. The top guy on the podium should be the first guy to help his fellow racers. Adam Drake is probably the best person in the industry at this; he always takes the time to help all level of racers. How much do you charge for your autograph? Anymore I hardly ever get asked. LOL!
